Located in Summerland, BC, Okanagan Crush Pad Winery is home to Free Form, Haywire and Narrative wines. Our winery was founded on a long history of friendship, a mutual respect for land and wines that articulate a sense of place.
In 2005 David Scholefield convinced Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie to plant a small vineyard in Summerland. David had a vision for the Okanagan, a young wine region that was trying to find its soul. Christine and Steve wanted to make wines that were as naturally beautiful as the Okanagan. David persuaded two world-renowned wine consultants, Alberto Antonini and Pedro Parra to come to the Okanagan. With their arrival, conventional thinking went out the window.?A new plan to push the envelope emerged.
Today, that small vineyard is Switchback Organic Vineyard, located at the winery in Summerland, BC.
Our team has built a state of the art winery and BC’s first custom crush facility, Okanagan Crush Pad. Winemaker Matt Dumayne heads the winemaking team. We make pure, terroir-driven wines from organic grapes using native yeast fermentations.
On the farming side, Christine and Steve purchased a 320-acre Summerland site now called Garnet Valley Ranch. Pedro has used precision viticulture to design the vineyard on virgin soil. To date, 40 acres of a potential 60 acres have been planted. The ranch is also home to 8 acres of organic field crops and a herd of sheep, guarded by two Great Pyrenees dogs.
Our winery is state-of-the-art and features large concrete tanks. Our guest center is built into the heart of the facility, offering visitors a rare glance into the art of winemaking.
The tasting room and wine shop offer a place to sample and buy our wine. These wines reflect the region’s unique high mountain/northern desert setting, one that is noted for its intensely hot, short growing season with hallmark cool evenings.
